Continuous Rain Halts 1,400 Megawatts of Power Production, Most Hydropower Projects Affected
Due to continuous rain, approximately 1,400 megawatts of power production has come to a halt in Nepal. Particularly affected are the 456 megawatt Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, Chilime, Lower Hewakhola, Hewakhola, and Mandu Hydropower Projects. The structure of the main dam area of Upper Tamakoshi has been damaged by landslides, leading to a suspension of production indefinitely.
In the Eastern region, some projects have also closed their powerhouses due to the impact of the rain, exercising caution. Flooding has swept away the towers of the Kabeli transmission line in the Mai Khola, resulting in a halt in the power supply in the Eastern region.
The main transmission line of the Kathmandu Valley, the Khimti-Lamachanghu 132 kV tower, has also been damaged by the Koshi River, affecting the power supply. Following a heavy reduction in internal production, 300 megawatts of electricity have been imported from India.
