Nepal's History in T20 World Cup

This is Nepal’s second participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with their last appearance dating back to 2014, which was held in Bangladesh.

Nepal is making a comeback in the T20 World Cup after a decade. This will be their second time participating in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, with their last appearance being in 2014 in Bangladesh.

In 2014, Nepal achieved wins against Hong Kong and Afghanistan but lost to Bangladesh. Despite their victories, they couldn't progress to the next round due to a lower Net Run Rate.

This period marked a high point for Nepal cricket, with the entire country celebrating their success. It led to a significant rise in cricket's popularity, inspiring many young players to pursue cricket as a career. Several current national players attribute their dreams of becoming professional cricketers to the success of that period.

Sompal Kami is the sole player from the recently announced squad who was also part of the historic 2014 team. Binod Bhandari, who was in the 2014 squad, played in the qualifying tournament that secured a spot in the mega event but didn’t make it into the final squad.

The 2014 T20 World Cup squad for Nepal is often considered the most iconic squad of all time. Here's how Nepal's squad looked for the T20 World Cup 2014:

Paras Khadka led the team, which included legendary players like Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawakar, Shakti Gauchan, and Basant Regmi. The full squad was as follows:

  • Paras Khadka (captain)
  • Gyanendra Malla (vice-captain)
  • Binod Bhandari (wicketkeeper)
  • Subash Khakurel
  • Sharad Vesawakar
  • Pradeep Airee

  • Jitendra Mukhiya
  • Shakti Gauchan
  • Basant Regmi
  • Amrit Bhattarai

(Note: Avinash Karn and Prithu Banskota were sidelined due to injuries.)
